Austere, brutal, flooded by a blinding light, such are the rocky landscapes that surround the blue fringed with white of the Dead Sea. The Greeks called it the "asphaltite lake", the Muslims the "stinking lake", the Hebrews the "sea of salt" or even the "sea of law" allusion to the destruction "by sulfur and fire" of Sodom. and Gomorrah. The two cities bordering the lake from which only Lot and his family could escape. Free time to bathe and relax. Then, road to Almoujib Canyon (at the edge of the Dead Sea), for an aquatic hike (2-3h) through the canyon, your hike starts in the refreshing waters of the Wadi Moujip canyon: the emerald basins pass through the hollows of huge red walls. On the beginnings of the Sharah mountain range, we will hike in the middle of junipers while overlooking the desert plains of Wadi Araba (Negev Desert). We will arrive at noon, not far from the Monastery or El Deir, we will leave our horses there and we will leave on foot (approx. 40min), towards our visit to Petra, via El Deir. At the end of the path, which climbs towards the Jebel Al-Deir, rises the most imposing of all the monuments of the ancient city of Petra. With its 43m high and 44m wide facade, you feel tiny. We can quickly see its deep resemblance to the Khazneh, even if its ornamentation is a little more sober. We are quickly surprised to discover the excellent conservation of the monument, despite the intense erosion present in the city, at the origin of the deterioration of a good number of graves. However, it is not protected by any mountainside. This visit has the immense advantage of taking you around the crowds of Petra to reach the famous "Monastery", and of avoiding climbing the site's 800 steps ... even if you still have to climb a little.
